HEALTHY EATING

At Orchards Nurseries we offer nutritionally balanced meals and snacks, prepared by qualified and experienced on-site chefs.

We believe that it is important to provide nutritious balanced meals that are appropriate to each child’s individual dietary needs. Staff work with parents to ensure that we provide a diet that considers each child’s preferences, cultural beliefs and allergies. Our menus also provide children with chances to explore new tastes and textures.

Snacks vary daily, but often consist of fresh fruit, fresh vegetable sticks and bread sticks, accompanied by a glass of milk or water.

The younger babies have a separate menu. Weaning starts with freshly prepared vegetable and fruit purees with the gradual introduction to meat, fish and other textures. By the time the babies are a year old, we aim for them to be eating the same food as the rest of the nursery.

The provision of water is readily available for all ages throughout the day as staying hydrated is considered paramount to our children’s welfare.

Our menus are carefully planned and rotate on a three-week basis. If your child has any dietary requirements upon registration, we will have a meeting with our nursery chef to put together an individual health care plan.

Our understanding of the importance of good nutrition has been recognised with accreditation of the Early Years Nutrition Partnership Quality Mark. This accreditation represents the attainment of specific quality standards in menu provision, the eating environment and education within an Early Years setting.
